EVENTS
The EVENTS page. There are three main pages in Dibbs 1.0. HOME, EVENTS, and SEARCH. When you tap the Dibbs button to start the Dibbs app, you immediately see the EVENTS page. The EVENTS page starts off with all the events around your current location, starting at your current time. If you wish to see events for a different location, or a different time and date, or set a different search distance, press the SEARCH button to let Dibbs know which events to show you.
Using the EVENTS page. Each event has its own row in the events list. Scroll through the list by dragging your finger up and down. Each event entry will show the event name, the type of event, the place, the event time, and the distance from your current location in miles. To find out more about an event, tap on it. You’ll see a page with detailed information to help you decide if the event interests you. You can now drag your finger to scroll through the details. From here you can visit the venue’s Website by tapping on its link in the description page. You can get a map from where you’re at straight to the venue by clicking MAP IT. Or, you can go back to browse more events by clicking BACK.
SEARCH for Events.
The SEARCH page. This page is the jumping-off point to tell Dibbs what events you’d like to find. You can always do a SEARCH by pushing the SEARCH button at the bottom of the screen. After giving Dibbs some information about what you’re looking for, push the GO button. Dibbs will immediately take you back to the EVENTS page to view the events matching your new SEARCH selection. Inside the SEARCH page, you tell Dibbs the following information so it can help you find your events:
Location, Search Distance, Date, and Time.
Important Note: The Date and Time you select will start the “top of the list” for the events you’ll see. From whatever date and time you select, you will see events for 2 weeks onward.
Location -- The place in which you’re looking for events. You have three choices. At first, Dibbs uses the current location where your iPhone is at. If you change “Use my current location” from ON to OFF, you have two other choices. You can enter a Zip Code or a City and State. If you enter the city and state, type the name of the city, a space, and the two letter state abbreviation. For example: Reno NV, Incline Village NV, South Lake Tahoe CA, and so on. Note that Dibbs works in northern Nevada and California, in the area around Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Lake Tahoe and Truckee.
Search Distance -- How far from the selected location you’re willing to travel.
Starting Date -- The date you want Dibbs to start showing you events.
Starting Time -- The time you want Dibbs to start showing you events.
After telling Dibbs your search preferences, hit the “GO” button and Dibbs will take you back to the EVENTS page to see your events. For the rest of the time you’re in the app, the EVENTS page will show the events matching your new search preferences. But you can change your search for events as often as you like by hitting the SEARCH button again.
HOME Page.
All other features and settings for the Dibbs app are found in the HOME page. Each of these features is accessible through a “Widget”. Each Widget has a special button you push to access that Widget. Below is a list of the Widgets you can use in the current version of Dibbs. (Expect many more exciting Widgets later!)
Me
My Settings -- this is where you select personal preferences. You can set your preferred search distance, whether or not you want sound effects, and how to show Happy Hour.
Preferred Search Distance is a very important setting. It automatically controls how far you want Dibbs to look for events each and every time you start the app. At first, this is set to 50 miles, so that people in Tahoe can see what’s going on in Reno, and vice versa. If you set long distances, you will have a bigger view of what’s going on all around the area: Carson City, Reno, Tahoe, etc. However, you may not like to read through a long list of events, many of which are far away from you. In that case, you can set a smaller search radius, such as 15 miles. Keep in mind, this is the search distance that will always be used when you start the app. Still, you can always set a new search distance every time you hit the SEARCH button.
For Happy Hour, you can select whether to show Happy Hours from now for the rest of the day, or Happy Hours going on now and in the near future. If you select “near future”, you will see a slider for how far in advance you can see upcoming Happy Hours. This is useful if you want to quickly see Happy Hours for right here, right now.
Top Events
The Dibbs Team is well connected to “The Scene.” We make personal selections on remarkable and noteworthy events going on for the month, to make sure you don’t miss out on anything special. Hitting the Top Events button takes you to the EVENTS page, showing EVENTS that were personally chosen by the Dibbs network of promoters, artists, and industry insiders. These include everything from big mainstream events, to noteworthy underground events. After tapping TOP EVENTS, these will be the events that show in the EVENTS page. To change this, do a new SEARCH in the SEARCH page.
Taxi
Most of us know the number for a taxi in our town. But if you’re from Reno and visiting Carson City, or from Tahoe’s North Shore and visiting Sparks, or from South Lake Tahoe and visiting Truckee, you may find yourself out on the town, having a little too much fun, and not knowing the number for a cab. Do the right thing, and never drive intoxicated. The Taxi Widget knows where you are and automatically calls you a local cab company for wherever you are in Dibbs’ covered regions of northern Nevada and California, which includes Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Lake Tahoe and Truckee.
Happy Hour
In the Dibbs region, there’s a world of specials out there. Food and drink specials during Happy Hour are everywhere, but even locals don’t know the half of them. When you press the Happy Hour button, you immediately see a list of all the bars, restaurants, and casinos nearest to you who are offering specials today. The Happy Hour Widget automatically knows where you are. The list is sorted from top to bottom by how close the specials are to where you’re at, at that moment!
Reno Tahoe Tonight (RTT)
Some of you may have missed it, but Reno-Tahoe has a new magazine that over the past months has with surprising quickness blossomed into the area’s premier social magazine. RTT is chock full of nearly 100 full color pages of art, events, photography, culture, and compelling local stories. To navigate the magazine, pinch your fingers to zoom in and out of the page you’re currently viewing. To go forward to the next page, press the “[>>] next page” button. To go backwards to previous pages, press the “[<<] prev page” button. To leave the magazine and return to Dibbs, press the “go back” button.
Dibbs has partnered with RTT because it is a breed apart from any other magazine in the area. Even better is the fact that now everyone with Dibbs always has a copy of RTT in their pocket!
Help Center
This is the online Dibbs manual. If you’re reading this, you pushed the Help Center button, and here you are!
