The Sparks Tribune’s article “It’s An App World” prominently featured Dibbs , Scott Armstrong and Erin Looney. It discussed the phenomenon of “apps” or “applications”.
“There wasn’t one place to go to find out everything going on around you,” Armstrong said. “It was like a jungle footpath and you had to hack your way with a machete from point A to point B to find out the information you wanted.”
Armstrong describes Dibbs as a free superhighway without any tollbooths, merging content and integrating communications from a variety of sources and producing information that meets user-set preferences. Since launching in May, the app has received more than 8,000 downloads.
Scott Armstrong, CEO of Dibbs made a presentation on not only the Dibbs event listing and notification application, but also about being an entrepreneur. His talk is part of NCET eWeek and The University of Nevada College of Business B-week. The speech was given at the final event of SM@RT 2010 on Thursday, September 16, 2010 in the Knowledge Center on the UNR Campus.
Armstrong, who formerly worked for a biotech startup where he met Looney, 40, said the pair came up with the idea in Armstrong's living room.
"We're both serial entrepreneurs," said the 46-year-old. "We were in my living room with a whiteboard, throwing up a bunch of ideas, and we kept coming back to this idea that we're always missing out on events around us, because the information is so fragmented, we thought it'd be nice to come to one place to find out everything going on."
They decided a mobile platform was the way to do it.
"We knew we wanted to be in the mobile arena because it doesn't realize there's a recession going on right now," Armstrong said. "It was just a matter of coming up with the idea that we could apply to that industry."
